Bärengraben

Since centuries an attraction of Berne and prominent represented in the local flag, the cute furry animals are happy if you come to entertain them and bring something – vegetarian – like carrots or bread along. The bear pit was first mentioned in the year 1480, when is was located on the site of todays Käfigturm. Since it's construction, the bear pit is well-visited and attracts inhabitans as well as tourists. Usually around twelve bears live in the Bärengraben and enjoy their own climbing trees and waterholes.
