Have a closer look at the archival cultural heritage of the state of Berne. In the readingroom you can look at documents from the city-state of Berne (until 1798), the helvetic states Berne and Oberland (1798-1803) and the state of Berne administration department until the recent time. Besides the material sourced by the state the archive holds sourcematerial of private origin (personal assets, familiy archives) and a bulked specialized library. Medieval documents and historic maps and blueprints are among the most valuable inventory of the archive. The Bernese church books (until 1875) are a central source for the genealogical scientist. Numberous visual- and audiodocuments depict the younger Bernese history.
