Nydegg-Kirche

view on the map

At the Eastern tip of the peninsula of Bern you'll find the Nydegg-Church, which beholds an important piece of Berne's history. On this very spot used to stand a castle which was used by Berchtold V von Zähringen, who founded the city of Bern in 1191 and named it after the first animal they killed on one of their hunting trips: a bear.
