How to contact CityHunter?
For suggestions and material concerning new entries or news, please use the forms SUBMIT NEWS and ADD A LOCATION. For general information or sales related topics you can contact us with hi@cityhunter. Please understand that we do not have the ressources to give individual travel guidance. For this purpose please use the CityHunter tool, which informs you on your individual travel needs. If you feel that CityHunter should improve in a certain area please let us know. We are advancing constantly.
Who is behind CityHunter?
The local media agency TURN run by the brothers Simon, Stephan and Philip Urech has initiated CityHunter in 2003. All contents are written and produced by local media enterpreneurs and streetwise characters with a great deal of insight on local youth and subculture activities. The programming was done by the local IT agency Dreamlab.
The local party and leisure magazine Bewegungsmelder is sourcing the dates for all cultural and nightlife venues. The official tourism office of Berne cooperates with CityHunter to inform young incoming guests about Berne.
What if the map does not load?
You need the Macromedia Flash Plugin to run the CityHunter map. If you have the plugin installed, check if your internet connection is working properly. If the problem prolongs contact panne@cityhunter.ch
How to use the CityHunter map?
Scroll the map using the arrows on the top of the map. On the overview map you see a rectangle coloured in a lighter shade, it corresponds to the shown section of the map. The categories menu lets you choose topics and subtopics, whereas matching locations and venues are then marked on the map. With mouseover you can see the name of the location. Mousedown on a particular venue opens a detailed profile view. With search you can find specific locations by their name.
About Berne
Where are the banks and ATMs?
In the central town you find branches of all Swiss public banks. Banks usually open Mon to Fri from 8AM to 4PM, most being closed on Saturday. Almost every streetcorner comes with an ATM machine. The local currency is Swiss Francs, but Euros are widely accepted in tourist venues.
When can I do shopping?
Normal shopping hours are from 9 AM to 6:30 PM from Mon-Fri, with late shopping on Thursday night. On Saturdays from 9 AM to 4 PM. On Sundays most shops are closed.
All about Openair Concerts and Parties
Most festivities take place from spring to autumn. The main event is the Gurtenfestival. But besides this four day music festival there is a great variety of small scale concerts and parties. What are the local languages?
The local language is Bärndütsch or Bernese, a Swiss German dialect spoken in various styles among the people in the state of Berne. Most people understand and speak German, mainy also French and English.
How to get to Berne?
A vast network of trains is connecting Berne with all mayor Swiss cities and International metropolis such as Paris, Rome, Berlin and so on. If you arrive by airplane, you reach Berne from Zurich Airport in about one hour. The local airport Berne-Belpmoos is located twenty minutes from the city center. If you drive to Berne with your own car, best use the Park&Ride facilities in Bern-Neufeld to park your car and jump on the bus to the center.
